Nous avons cependant eu suffisamment de matière pour nous faire une idée de la boucle d’exploration qui nous attend dans 33 Immortals. Schématiquement, nous rejoignons donc un lobby de 33 joueurs, qui se trouvent disséminé especialmentes dans une grande carte. Celle-ci comporte por nombreux objectifs secondaires pour amasser des ressources permettant por se soigner ou d’acheter divers objets, augmenter nos statistiques ou ouvrir des coffres.

Thankfully, Thunder Lotus has been listening it seems, as a changelog for the day-one patch I’ve seen lists a permanent reduction of the dodge cooldown to 1 second. The update will also offer more perks when starting out and reduce the number of hurdles you have to jump through to unlock features like weapon upgrades, hopefully reducing the starting grind.

I didn’t find any of the characters in the hub world particularly intriguing, but they serve their purpose just fine. Besides, it’s not about them — the main focus in 33 Immortals

I would have loved to have more open slots to add friends, perhaps with some sort of drawbacks to cancel out the added coordination.

While that isn’t a massive amount of time to pump into a roguelike, I think I managed to grasp the title’s unique gameplay loop and the direction the developers want to take it.

Thunder Lotus’ hand-drawn style is rich in detail, from illuminated script menus to grotesque, hellish landscapes straight out of a horror series—complete with mutilated devilish bodies around the map.

describes itself as a distillation of the MMO raid experience, an action-packed roguelike where 33 players are placed together on a large world map, a land littered with charred buildings and jagged spears of stone surrounded by flames. It’s also full of monsters. Lots of monsters.

It’s an experiment in structured chaos, and for those willing to embrace the unpredictability, it’s an experience worth diving into.

In the same options menu, control bindings for both keyboard and mouse, and controllers, are missing. I did not have any issues with the existing control scheme, but that doesn’t mean this shouldn’t be a launch feature, even for an early access experience.

Leaning on one another’s skills and class abilities to unleash a balanced attack against waves of monsters is a key to success.

You start a run by picking a weapon — justice sword, sloth staff or greed daggers — and each has a special ability that only works when three players stand together and activate it. It’s different for each weapon, but the effect is consistently grand.
